A word about the collection:

Noted for it examples of works by the Scottish Colourists, the former collection of the Fleming merchant bank can now be seen in the beautiful setting of a specially-designed gallery in Mayfair. In 1968, the Fleming merchant bank moved into new London offices and one of the directors suggested purchasing a few paintings ‘to brighten up the many bare walls’. Given the bank’s Scottish origins, it was agreed that the paintings should have some link with Scotland. 30 years later, visitors felt that they were walking into an art gallery, as every available wall space was hung with paintings! The collection was never considered as an investment but rather as a means of offering a pleasant environment for both staff and visitors alike. It also aimed to foster Scottish art and encourage young Scottish artists. After the sale of the bank in 2000, it became part of a foundation endowed by the Fleming family and aimed at promoting Scottish art.
